So I wanted to add some more colour to my gallery. I'm not really happy with this one, but it was kinda fun. Good practice I suppose. I don't like how it scanned though. Looks much better on the paper. Might touch it up and resubmit.
Very nice picture and composition! I think the blue background really made this pop...great idea on your behalf. Did you draw this with regular pencil first? I imagine you did. There's very few anatomical errors...slight slight things, like elbow distance and where her hips are are about the only things I see off hand. You have one hip up high and the other down low. But I mean this as constructive criticism!! I don't mean to sound harsh or anything, honestly! You used color brilliantly. You have a great solid knowledge of the medium and you execute it wonderfully. Practice for the little things like what I pointed out would bring this from a great piece to a fantastic piece! I think it was a good move to keep her face from view...it really accentuates the overall picture. Work on some darker shadows here and there, too. You started highlights and whatnot, then it got a little weaker on the dark side...I think you were becoming concerned with color at that point, which is OK because it's tough to keep it all in mind on your first real colored pencil piece. Sorry if my comment was a little long and a little rude...I just want you to continue your growth and progress!! Beautiful picture, dear!
Actually I didn't sketch it out first. I used coloured pencils all the way through. And I did kinda notice about the hip too. I figured I made the sweep of the blanket or whatever a little to low as well as the hip a bit too high. And yea I was a smite bit worried about the colour. I was afriad to ruin it if I used to much, so the shading isn't as dark as it should be. And yea I didn't care who she was, so I felt it best to leave out her face and everything. That wasn't the focus and I wanted it to stay that way.
Whoa, wait, you did that completely with colored pencil? No starter lines or anything? That's spectacular! No, really...I mean, the hip thing didn't really stick out to me until I forced myself to look at all the detail. You really did a great job pulling this off. You should probably consider doing more with stock or something like that off of dA...Colored pencil just might be your medium, dude! Come on, think about where you started with other mediums, then look at where you started with this one. You seem to have a natural knack for things in color. You create a depth with color that I think causes trouble for you with just black & white. And with colored pencil, the more you use it, the more you'll realize that it's relatively difficult to screw it up. You can correct mistakes rather nicely with colored pencil. Would you draw something if I challenged you to it? Say, I pick out a random image that I think you can do and challenge you to draw it? Would you be interested? Just curious to see if I could get the blood flowing in a different direction as per motivation. ^_^
